The Chinese Crested is known as a hypo-allergenic, non-shedding, and highly trainable dog.  They have a lively gait which makes them look like prancing little ponies or miniature Clydesdale Horses.  Chinese Crested dogs make loving companions for families, single owners living in apartments, as well as the elderly.  They are friendly, playful, and entertaining.  They are devoted to their owners, and enjoy the company of humans. There are three types of coats (1) “true hairless”, HL, only have hair plumes only on the head, tail and feet, (2) ” Hairy Hairless”, HHL, have a sparse covering outer coat of hair and a lack hair on the undercoat and, (3) the “Powder Puff”, PP, that have a light to medium coat of outer hair and a plush undercoat.  The Chinese Crested is a friendly family dog and is non aggressive towards children or animals. Chinese Cresteds are known for their ability to "hug"; because, they can cling with their toes to toys, food, or even people. They make great family dogs because they love and respect the companionship of a home.  The hairless type tends to be odorless and hypo-allergenic; therefore, they are a very low maintenance breed.
